Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma Partners with HealthStream for Quality Improvement

Through a partnership with HealthStream®, a nationally-recognized healthcare improvement firm, Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma (MCSO) plans to use surveys to monitor patient care delivered by the hospital’s employees and physicians.  The HealthStream® surveys will be done by telephone calls to patients versus the previous method of mailing the surveys. The partnership allows MCSO’s leaders to evaluate patient experiences on a year-round, day-to-day basis.  HealthStream® makes telephone calls to randomly selected patients shortly after discharge from the hospital.  Patients will volunteer confidential responses ranging from topics such as staff communication to the cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment.

MCSO’s Director of Marketing, Teresa Townsend, says that “HealthStream’s phone method will allow hospital leaders the opportunity to correct any negative experiences more quickly than the mail method we’ve used in the past.”  Continuing, Townsend commented that, “MCSO’s administrators plan to use the information to drive quality improvement efforts throughout the hospital by referencing HealthStream’s evidenced-based Best Practices series.”

MCSO’s vision is to create employee awareness that will translate into ownership of the MCSO community image.  According to one MCSO executive, “we strive to become not only a medical complex known for providing exceptional medical care, but a health system with a foundation of guiding principles that will shape the future of delivering the highest-quality of healthcare to communities throughout the country.”

In addition to monitoring patient perceptions of care, HealthStream will also assist MCSO in assessing employee and medical staff engagement and satisfaction through annual surveys.  MCSO CEO, Pat Dorris, says “The highest quality of patient care is only given by employees and physicians who enjoy where they work, who they work with and what they do each day.  HealthStream will help us gauge our employee and physician needs so that everyone associated with MCSO has a positive experience.”

The Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma (MCSO) is a 148-bed Acute Care Hospital that continues to gain recognition for clinical excellence and efficient delivery of care.  MCSO is staffed by over 100 physicians, covering a multitude of specialties and services. This hospital is partially owned by physicians.
